Density is the single most useful number in lead shielding, because the mass of lead in the path of the beam determines how much radiation is absorbed. These high density lead shielding bricks are cast to a verified density of approximately 11.34 grams per cubic centimetre, the true specific gravity of pure lead, so a single course of brick delivers the lead equivalent that the room calculation assumes. Low density castings full of gas porosity under perform badly, and installers often compensate by adding material that the structure was never designed to carry. Our solid, fully dense bricks mean the shielding wall is both thinner and lighter than a wall built from inferior blocks, and the documented specific gravity gives the radiation physicist a reliable figure to enter into the shielding model.

High density lead shielding bricks are chosen wherever the shielding design is tight on space or where the structure cannot carry heavy extra load. Typical installations include CT scanning rooms, PET and nuclear medicine suites, interventional angiography laboratories, dental and veterinary X ray rooms, and industrial radiography enclosures. Because the bricks are dense and interlocking, a contractor can build a compact, professional looking wall that reaches the required lead equivalent with fewer courses, which saves labour as well as material and leaves more usable floor area inside the shielded room.

Two bricks of the same size can differ sharply in shielding value if one contains gas porosity from a rushed casting. We control the melt temperature, the pouring rate and the cooling cycle so that the lead solidifies without trapped voids, and we verify the result by weighing each brick against its calculated volume. The measured specific gravity is recorded in the batch file and can be reported to the customer, giving the radiation protection engineer a solid, auditable figure for the shielding model and for the project handover dossier.

Bricks are packed in robust wooden cases or on strapped pallets with corner protection, and each pack is marked with the size, net weight and batch code.
