||
For nuclear power plants, hot cells and shielded research facilities, ordinary shielding blocks are not sufficient. These nuclear grade lead shielding bricks are cast from fully refined lead with a purity of 99.99% or better and are supplied with a heat-number certificate that traces every brick back to its original melt. The high purity increases density to approximately 11.34 grams per cubic centimeter and eliminates slag inclusions that can create weak spots in lower grade castings, providing the predictable, uniform attenuation required for nuclear safety cases.
The bricks are cast as interlocking rectangular blocks with single or double herringbone profiles, enabling rapid construction of thick shielding walls that can be dismantled when cell configurations change. Each unit undergoes visual inspection, weighing, and dimensional verification before leaving the foundry.

Typical installations include reactor bioshield infill, spent fuel pool shielding, hot cells, glovebox surrounds, isotope production vaults, cyclotron bunkers and high energy physics beam dumps. In these critical locations, shielding must satisfy formal safety cases and remain serviceable for decades, making purity, density and traceability as important as wall geometry.
The interlocking profile enables brick reuse during cell reconstruction, reducing long-term project costs and minimizing contaminated material requiring radioactive waste treatment.
Nuclear buyers require documented chain-of-custody from melt to finished brick. We provide a certificate of analysis with each order recording chemical composition, heat number and inspection results, with full material test reports available upon request. Third-party factory inspection can be arranged before shipment, helping project teams complete quality dossiers without delays and providing radiation protection officers confidence that installed lead matches design specifications.
Bricks are packed in sealed wooden cases with moisture barriers to prevent white oxide staining on lead surfaces. Each case is stenciled with heat number, size and net weight. All production operates under ISO 9001 quality systems with finished goods passing CE conformity checks.
Custom sizes and alloy compositions are available as OEM or ODM orders. Simply provide drawings or specifications for technical proposals including lead times and packing details.
